Governance

Governors are the largest voluntary body in the country. They, along with Trust Members and Directors, provide a valuable service to the community and help to influence the work of schools and the future of young people. These roles are also important in church schools, with additional responsibility for developing, monitoring and supporting a theologically rooted Christian vision for the school; ensuring that it impacts all areas of school life.

Involvement in school governance is an important part of Christian service and in a Church school touches the lives of many families in experiencing what the Christian faith might mean for those that live it. If you would like more information about what it means to be a governor, we have created a document for those involved in church school governance to support this. If you feel that you have the relevant skills and experience and would like to support a church school in this manner please contact Linda Boys.

The DBE is involved in the appointment to all levels of governance in both maintained (VC/VA Schools) and academies. They do rely on local knowledge and links in order to support appointments across the 115 schools and will work with local parishes to support this. The following documentation sets out the process regarding appointments in church schools and academies, with the relevant forms to fill in.
